Award Winning Maker of Biobased Baby Toys and Consumer Products Selected
for Plug and Play Fall 2018 Accelerator
Bioserie joins global innovation network with focus on innovating new materials and packaging
(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) – Bioserie is proud to be one of the 18 startups accepted into Plug and Play’s Fall 2018 Accelerator cohort for innovative new materials and packaging. During the prestigious three-month accelerator program, Bioserie has become part of the global Plug and Play network and is actively participating in exclusive networking events and business development matchmaking.
Stephanie Triau, CEO of Bioserie, kicked off the company’s involvement in Plug and Play by joining a strategic focus week in Sunnyvale, CA on August 28-30. This week, Bioserie is back in the U.S. to attend Plug and Play’s fall summit on October 23-25 in partnership with The Disruptive Factory, a U.S. based champion of developing and implementing disruptive ideas and technologies focused on sustainable solutions and innovation.
“Bioserie is delighted to be given this chance to join Plug and Play, a renowned innovation platform dedicated to disruptive technologies that have the potential to transform markets,” said Stephanie Triau, CEO of Bioserie. “Our products at Bioserie are the fruit of many years of research. Our team’s hard work has enabled us to bring to market fully biobased, durable consumer products, which are a healthier and more sustainable alternative to traditional oil-based plastics items that still crowd retail shelves. We believe that through Plug and Play’s corporate ecosystem of experts and partners, we can expand the scope of potential applications of our process.”
Since 2010, starting with phone covers and then baby toys from 2015 onwards, Bioserie’s products have gained strong recognition internationally in the sustainability arena and won consumer and trade awards. The company has developed a patent pending technology in injection moulding of fully biobased PLA compounds. Bioserie’s proprietary mix of biomaterials achieves better melt flow characteristics than current biobased alternatives and feature performance consistency with intricate product geometries at a competitive price level. Bioserie products achieve dishwasher safety, durability, food contact safety and have a superb quality feel with vivid colors. Its latest line of products, baby toys designed for 0-2 years old have received two exclusive certifications in the industry: they are USDA 100% biobased and MADE SAFE® certified.
“Bioserie has the potential to revolutionize the industry with its uniquely sustainable products and dynamic, purposeful vision,” said Dr. Cynthia Phillips, Co-Founder and CEO of The Disruptive Factory. “Bioserie is creating useful and playful products that help the planet, and we look forward to participating in Plug and Play to innovate through their unique value proposition.”
“We are proud to work with Bioserie to give consumers a new kind of green derived from annually renewable resources in the world of baby toys,” said Deborah Luster, Co-Founder, Chief Branding & Marketing Strategist of The Disruptive Factory. “Bioserie goes beyond recycling, repurposing and reusing, all of which are significant components of corporate value and sustainability, and creates products that play a special role in the lives of children and their families.”
Bioserie is a Hong Kong-based venture built around the conviction that bioplastics technology will eventually change the world for the better by enabling people to consume more responsibly towards the environment. Since its founding in 2009, the team’s enduring enthusiasm and strong network within the bioplastics ecosystem has allowed the start-up to improve its product performance properties through each iteration, impressing experts, distributors and consumers alike. Their products contain absolutely no petrochemicals, which makes them unique as a lot of the “bioplastics” on our shelves often contain a small fraction of oil-based additives. Bioserie’s current line of baby toys is sold internationally, mostly through a network of close to ten distributors. The company is currently developing a line of dinnerware and investigating potential use of its proprietary biomaterials mix in cosmetics packaging. Contact: email@example.com
